Are Rubber Boots Waterproof?

Are Rubber Boots Waterproof?

Yes, rubber is naturally waterproof and durable!

The big advantage of rubber boots is that, as well as being 100% waterproof, they are also more flexible than gumboots made from plastic materials. This flexibility comes from rubber’s natural elasticity, giving you greater comfort and ease of movement.

Let’s take a closer look at how we designed our gumboots to be 100% waterproof, along with the added features that make them perfect for your everyday adventures.

How Do We Make Our Boots 100% Waterproof?

Made from natural rubber, Merry People's boots are designed to be 100% waterproof, keeping you dry and warm, whatever the temperature. The neoprene lining ensures our boots are waterproof at the sides as well.

All of our gumboots are made from vegan materials, waterproof, and made from high-quality natural rubber.

Rubber Versus PVC Gumboots: What's the Difference?

Plastic or PVC is a common material used to make gumboots. In comparison to a rubber gumboot, a PVC gumboot is made from non-renewable, synthetic materials, is easier to manufacture (as you can use molds), usually lighter, stiffer and less insulated.

On the other hand, natural rubber gumboots offer superior comfort, durability, and flexibility compared to PVC.

Here’s why we choose rubber for our gumboots:

  • Better for the environment: It’s renewable, biodegradable, and absorbs CO2, unlike PVC, which is synthetic and harmful to the environment. Rubber harvesting is a sustainable practice, and doesn’t harm the trees.
  • More comfortable: Natural rubber moulds to your feet over time, providing flexibility, better grip, and warmth in all weather conditions.
  • Better quality: Natural rubber gumboots offer superior performance and durability than their plastic counterparts.

In short, rubber gumboots are the better option for both your feet and the environment. With proper care, your gumboots will last for years.

The Practicality Built Into Every Pair of Merry People Boots

Of course, your boots being waterproof is hugely important, but one of the merriest things about our boots is their practicality.

Designed for Comfort

Each of our boots is created with built-in arch support for all-day comfort, with the option to remove the insoles to accommodate any orthotics, bunions, or special inserts.

Are rubber boots warm? Absolutely. Rubber naturally keeps heat in, while the soft neoprene lining also provides additional warmth and insulation, as well as cushioning to give you the optimal cosy vibes every step of your day.

Durable for Everyday

All of our boots are designed to last, made with high-quality materials, enhanced traction grip, and quality natural rubber.

This allows our boots to stand out against the elements. Our boots are also easy to clean and maintain; all you need to do is rinse your boots off with water, and they’re good as new!

Sustainability Shapes Our Boots

In 2023, we partnered with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to ensure our packaging pulp and rubber for boots come from responsibly sourced, well-managed plantations, where workers are treated fairly. This year, we plan to move all of our styles to natural Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) rubber.

What about the packages you receive your boots in? All of our boots, socks, and even our care kids are packaged in FSC-Mix, which is a mixture of 80% recycled fibre and 20% FSC-certified new materials. This protects products while reducing our carbon footprint.

Our boots are also 100% vegan, and never tested on animals.

Why Choose Merry People Boots?

At Merry People, we’re committed to offering waterproof, high-quality boots that keep you dry, warm, and supported all day long. With natural rubber, neoprene lining and thoughtful design features, our boots are built to last and perform, whether you’re out in the garden or braving the elements!
