Our Values

At Merry People, we believe in crafting an exceptional product and providing an experience to our customers that makes them feel inspired to be a little more adventurous in their day-to-day. We are a female-owned company, and you can watch the video below to learn more about why, 6 years ago, our founder Dani Holloway left her corporate job to start designing rain boots. Merry People employs 80% women.

Growing up on a farm in the southeast of Australia, Dani knew that rain boots were often heavy, hard to walk in, and generally more practical than fashionable. Dani wanted to design a quality product that could be worn in lots of different situations - a versatile wardrobe staple! The boot had to be appropriate for both the metropolitan and country lifestyle: wet commutes, working in the garden, outdoor festivals, morning walks with the dog, and camping. Merry People bring modern design to a classic product, creating an everyday fashionable boot that you can season on season, year after year. You can discover the countless ways our customers wear Merry People boots on our Instagram.

Being a start-up, we are well aware that most businesses fail in the first couple of years. We have been working to put all our financial efforts to create a sustainable business model. We have donated to charities along the journey where possible and offered our boots as a prize for local schools to raise money. In 2019, we were in the happy position to give a generous financial amount to Hagar, a Melbourne based charity that works to stop the cycle of human trafficking, slavery, and abuse that exploits women and children in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Vietnam.  As we continue to stabilize and grow as a business, we will (hopefully this year!) formalize an alignment with a couple of grassroots charities that align with our values.

We are in the process of switching to biodegradable shipping parcels and streamlining our internal packaging to minimize waste.

Stay tuned for more. Xx.
