We’ve taken our partnership with the Mother’s Day Classic a step further this year to create a limited edition Bobbi Boot! We'll be donating 20% of every sale from this collaboration boot to the Mother’s Day Classic Foundation to help fund life-saving breast and ovarian cancer research.
Keep reading to find out more about the partnership from Zara, CEO of Mother's Day Classic Foundation, and Dani, along with our shared commitment to making a difference.
In case you missed it: The Mother’s Day Classic Foundation (MDC) runs 70+ events on Mother’s Day and community events throughout the year to raise funds for life-saving breast and ovarian cancer research. Last year, we donated $50,000 thanks to our community. This year, we'd love to further grow our support with your help!
How did the idea for this year’s collaboration come about?
Dani: Last year we raised funds selling our existing Dusty Pink Bobbi Boot. At the event last year, I suggested to Zara that we could do our own boot in 2024 - so that's what we did!
So many families are impacted by breast or ovarian cancer, including members of my own team. Our team’s connection to the cause, as well as to colour, women and the outdoors made this partnership a very merry match.
Zara: Merry People and the Mother’s Day Classic are a perfect match, united by shared values and a commitment to making a tangible difference for those diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer.
We were deeply moved by Merry People's generosity last year, and we are thrilled to see their continued support and expanded initiatives for 2024. Together, we can accelerate progress of life-saving research and ensure that one day every woman facing breast or ovarian cancer will be given the assurance she can survive.
Only research can achieve this goal and that’s why this truly is a life-saving boot.
How do the funds raised impact cancer research?
Zara: Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and approximately 57 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. But research IS making a difference, as the five-year survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 76% to 92%!
However, the five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is just 49%. Treatment approaches for ovarian cancer have barely changed in 30 years, which is why fundraising for further research is essential.
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal reproductive cancer; it has no early detection test, is difficult to diagnose, and requires vital research in order to improve the outcomes for those undergoing treatment. This is the first year where money raised by MDC will go towards funding breast cancer and ovarian cancer research.
Tell us more about the design process for this limited edition Bobbi Boot!
Zara: Hope, joy, strength and fun – these are the words that come to mind when you think of the Mother’s Day Classic, and these are the key elements we wanted to reflect in our collaboration boot.
Hope comes from the vital funds that will be raised, joy and fun from the vibrant pink (and the MDC daisy on the back!), and strength because these boots will take you anywhere you need to go – no matter the weather!
Dani: Shortly after I suggested collaborating on our own Bobbi Boot, Zara and her team sent through their pantone colours, and we went from there! They suggested we use their yellow daisy symbol, which we have included on the back of the boot.
Reflecting on the success of last year, what are your hopes for the fundraising efforts this year?
Dani: I would love to contribute more than last year! Our customers were so generous in supporting us and we hope they can really get behind what we have created again - to give much needed funds towards breast and ovarian cancer research.
Zara: We were completely blown away last year when Merry People handed over a BIG cheque for $50,000. That’s hard to top but I have a feeling that through the generosity of the Merry People community we can exceed that donation in 2024.
