Whether it's Autumn/Winter in Australia or heading into Spring in London, I always have a pair of Merry People Bobbi Boots in my styling rotation.
Sure we’ve all dabbled with many a ballet flat, trainer and heeled sandal in our time, but when it comes to something reliable and comfortable that still manages to reflect your personal style, Merry People’s gumboots have me sold.
Whether you’re styling them with a cropped jean, pair of shorts or midi dress, a good pair of classic ankle-length boots will never do you wrong and certainly will never go out of style. We’re all looking for the same things from a cold-weather classic: comfortable, practical but also stylish. They need to do the job, but we still want to look good.
Why Bobbi boots are a staple in my wardrobe
My personal style is a delicious buffet of everything from colourful Scandi looks to minimal, elegant silhouettes and some casual workwear thrown in the mix. So finding a pair of boots that can mesh with all of those is no mean feat.
My Bobbi boots, however, have risen to the occasion.
I’ll always try to incorporate something a bit fun, or different to an outfit so that it feels individualistic to me. If I’m wearing a particularly feminine look, that's when a chunky boot or casual jacket can really balance it out.
So here are some of my top tips for styling the Bobbi Boots that make them feel like a key element of your wardrobe rather than just the shoes you keep by the door for a walk!
Layering is your best friend!
For Autumn/Winter, it’s all about layering for warmth, but also adding a few pieces can completely transform a relatively normal outfit into a styled look you feel really good in.
Recently, I’ve been loving throwing a knit around my shoulders or tying it around my waist as a way to accessorise instead of the usual, dare I say boring, chunky scarf.
The Forest Green Bobbi boots are the perfect shade of green to add a little something interesting without being too bright and colourful. Worn with a leather jacket and pair of ecru denim jeans is the perfect nod to lighter days and by rolling the cuff of the jeans over you make sure your fabulous boots are on show.
Pick a few hard-working pieces to round out your wardrobe
Whilst we’re on the subject of layering, let's talk about gilets. The perfect transitional piece to help your wardrobe in those in-between weeks/ months where you’re always too hot in a jacket but too cold in just a t-shirt.
I’ll admit the wool gilet may be a bit of a Marmite item (which translates to a ‘polarising’ item, for my Australian friends!), but for me it is so simple and effective.
Once we get even further into the colder months I’ll then start adding a jacket/ coat over the top so it acts as the perfect little warmer. I have styled it here with the Midnight Blue Bobbi boots, an oversized striped t-shirt and some khaki barrel leg jeans. I love the proportions of this outfit and the barrel leg perfectly tapers in so you can see the boots and the pop of colour I’ve added in with the red socks.
Add a slightly more elegant and chic handbag to balance out the oversized look, and you’re good to go!
Light jackets for as long as we can!
Last but by no means least, the chore jacket.
My favourite of all the jacket styles of recent years. It’s cool, it’s chic, it’s lightweight, and it comes in every colourway you can imagine. Add a chore jacket to any of your outfits, whether it’s light blue vintage jeans, black tailored trousers or a white cotton midi skirt, and you have yourself a winning look. I’m wearing mine with the Dark Cherry boots to bring a little extra colour to the outfit. Any day that I can be wearing a comfy, casual but still quite cool (I’d say??) look like this one is a good day for me. It’s the perfect amount of put together without seeming like you’ve been agonising at the wardrobe door for hours.
Add some accessories like the little studded belt and dark burgundy basket handbag, and you’ve finished the look off perfectly.
Whether you’re looking to your wardrobe to inspire you with new ideas every day, or to create the perfect capsule collection that you know will never fail, I find mixing things up with my shoes the easiest way to add style. My love affair with Merry People’s Bobbi Boots is never-ending, comforting and most importantly, a fun one!
