What are our products made of?

Boot & Clog Materials

Our Merry People boots and clogs are made with a 100% waterproof, FSC-certified natural rubber compound for the uppers and outsoles. They also feature a metal stability shankpoly-cotton pull tabs, and a 4mm neoprene lining, making them fully waterproof.

The insoles in our Tully, Andie, Oberon and Fergie boots are made from recycled PU, and we’re working to expand this sustainable feature across our entire range.

While a few additional materials are used to set the rubber and add colour (like bonding agents and pigment powder), we do not use any PFAs or "forever chemicals" in our manufacturing process.

Our boots are 100% cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, and made without any animal products or byproducts.

Sandal Materials

Our sandals are made from a 100% waterproof, FSC-certified natural rubber compound and a sugarcane-based EVA footbed. The straps feature a neoprene underlay, quick-dry RPET webbing, and a metal alloy buckle for added durability, making them ideal for days at the beach or by the pool.

While a few additional materials are used to bond the rubber and add colour (such as pigment powders), we do not use any PFAs or “forever chemicals” in the manufacturing process.

Our sandals contain no animal products or byproducts, making them 100% cruelty-free and vegan-friendly.

Latex Allergies?

As latex is a naturally occurring rubber protein originating from the rubber plant, we cannot guarantee the natural rubber we use will be latex-free. If you have a latex allergy, we don't recommend our Merry Boots.

If you have any other allergy concerns or would like more information on the production of our products, please reach out to our team at support@merrypeople.com

Where are Merry People products made?

Production

To make sure Merry People footwear and accessories meet our quality standards, we work directly with some of the world’s leading factories to bring our designs to life.

Our factories are based in China and Vietnam, and we’ve built long-standing, close relationships with them over many years. Through their established supplier networks, we’re able to source high-quality natural rubber, neoprene, and vegan glue to craft our boots and RPET materials that form our sandals.
These factories are considered some of the best in manufacturing and produce for many well-known global brands. We’re incredibly proud that our main boot factory chose to work with us back in 2014, when Merry People was still very much a fledgling brand.

We continue to work directly and closely with our factory partners, staying in regular contact and visiting frequently to ensure high standards are upheld and that employees work in safe, healthy environments and are paid a living wage.

Social and Environmental Compliance

Each factory in our supply chain is regularly audited to ensure they meet both the Merry People Code of Conduct and international compliance standards for both social and environmental compliance.

Factories are audited using the SMETA reporting system by Sedex or BSCI by Amfori.

These audits assess categories such as compensation, including checking all staff attendance records and payslips for above minimum wages, health & safety, no youth / child or involuntary labour being used, fair overtime pay and hours, non-discrimination, PPE and the environmental impacts.

Sustainability

At Merry People, we aim to make the world a merrier place, guided by our brand values and a sense of responsibility. Over the last few years, we've focused on gaining full transparency around our supply chain and carbon footprint, taking meaningful steps to reduce our impact beyond just following sustainability trends.

How We Make Our Socks

What are our socks made from?

Our socks are made of 89% Merino and Cotton blend (50% Australian Merino Wool, 50% GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton), 10% Recycled Polyester, 1% Spandex.

Logo Trim: 100% polyester.

It is an industry standard to include a small amount of synthetic fibre in socks to make them flexible.

Are the socks suitable for Diabetics?

Unfortunately, due to our socks having compression tops, they are not suitable as diabetic socks.

Where are our socks made?

The socks are designed in Melbourne, Australia, and the manufacturing is done in China under fair-trade conditions.

Where do we source our wool?

Our wool is supplied by Techwool Trading. This is an Australian wool trading company, they purchase wool from different farms in Australia and make sure the wool is ethically provided and meets the AWTA standard requirement.

When the factory purchases the wool from Techwool Trading, they will provide a list of the farms, indicating where the wool came from and how much was provided by which farm.

As we only use a part of the Merino wool, we cannot know exactly which farm supplied our socks, but we know they are from one of the farms.

Our yarn factory only uses wool that is RWS-certified (Responsible Wool Standard), which means mulesing is prohibited. This is a critical requirement for RWS. RWS also ensure the wool meets rigorous animal welfare, land management and social requirements.
