Tasmanian winters hit different.

From frosty morning swims to Dark Mofo delights, here’s why Tassie deserves top spot on your travel list.

“What’s not to love about winter in Tasmania? Fresh air, beautiful beaches, incredible food and an inspiring, non-stop art scene.

But as someone who loves travelling but hates overpacking, I wanted to do it all in one pair of boots. My Brick Red Bobbi Boots were the only shoes I packed, and honestly, they were all I needed!”

Save this for your next trip down south!

Stop 1: Binalong Bay

Binalong Bay is a special place. I discovered it while driving around Tasmania on one of my first trips to the Bay of Fires region. Known for its crystal clear water and iconic orange lichen-covered rocks, a cold winter swim here is always a highlight for me.

Yes, it’s freezing!

But there’s nothing better than drying off afterwards, pulling on my Bobbi Boots, grabbing a coffee and climbing the rocks to take in the view.

Stop 2: The Lobster Shack

My stomach often leads the way when travelling, and I discovered The Lobster Shack years ago, visiting Bicheno.

It’s extremely popular, so winter is a great time to avoid the queues and get a seat overlooking the water.

Wearing my Brick Red boots felt like I was fully committing to the lobster theme, so I couldn’t resist ordering the famous Lobster Roll and a glass of local Tassie sparkling wine.

Stop 3: MONA

I highly recommend taking the ferry from Hobart over to MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art.

Despite the fact that it was a rainy, windy day and I got drenched after insisting on sitting outside, I still think it’s the best way to arrive.

Expect to do a lot of walking, between exploring the museum, wandering the grounds or making your way over to the House of Mirrors.

By this point in the trip, I was very glad I’d packed my Bobbi Boots.

They’re comfortable enough for a full day on your feet, kept me dry on a rainy day, and I even spotted a few fellow Merry People wearers around the grounds.

Stop 4: Dark Mofo

If you’ve never been to Dark Mofo, you need to do it. The whole city gets involved and quite literally paints the town red.

There’s so much to explore, from Dark Park and its incredible installations (including from inside the hull of a Spirit of Tasmania ferry this year), to the Winter Feast and the iconic Night Mass.

My Brick Red Bobbi Boots felt right at home amongst the red festivities, and while there was plenty of incredible food on offer, the cherry pie at the Winter Feast was a definite highlight.

My Top Packing Tip for 24 Hours In Tasmania

I only packed a small carry-on bag for this trip, so everything had to work together.

I built my outfits around my Brick Red Bobbi Boots, leaning into a colourful but still wintery palette.

I managed to have fun with prints, hats and a beanie to layer in with the looks. Like my 24 hours in beautiful Tasmania, my Bobbi Boots kept my looks easy, comfortable — and always fun.

More of My Must-See Special Mentions

There is so much more on offer in Tasmania. Here are a few other faves to check out.

  • Sonny (Hobart) - My favourite little wine bar in Hobart. It’s tiny, always buzzing and the staff are fun. They have mystery wines on the menu, so I always like to try and guess what they are. My advice would be to get there right when they open, just before 4 pm, there will definitely be a line later.
  • Pitzi Pasta - I tried this one for the first time on this trip and loved it. If you’re a pasta lover, it’s the sibling restaurant to Fico. Get the focaccia with anchovy oil!
  • Salamanca Markets + Gillespies Ginger Beer - If you’re in Hobart on a Saturday, Salamanca Markets are a must. My go-to stop is always the hot spiced ginger tea at Gillespies. Every single time!! (Don’t forget your KeepCup)
  • Gigi’s Diner - Another new discovery this trip. Gigi’s has an incredible breakfast menu with Americana-style classics like chicken and waffles. I enjoyed the savoury stack: fluffy pancake, bacon, eggs and a hashbrown *chefs kiss*
