This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. In celebration of this theme, I want to share the ways in which we strive to create a workplace where women in our team and community are included, nurtured, supported, and empowered.
But, before I share how we do this at Merry People, I’m eager to first talk about what International Women’s Day, and inspiring inclusion, means to me.
If we turn back the clock ten years, you’ll find that the story of Merry People is an unconventional one! I started this business by myself, bootstrapping every step of the way. I grew Merry People from just me setting up stalls on my own at markets across Victoria. Fast forward to now, as CEO of a global gumboot brand with over fifteen full-time employees.
Looking back now, I can see that I drew a lot of strength and inspiration from my mother's journey. She emigrated from India to Australia in the early '80s, forging a new life in a predominantly Caucasian society. Her entrepreneurial spirit and resilience serve as my guiding light, showing me what it means to carve your own path despite cultural differences.
As I’ve grown this business, and grown as a leader, I've come to realise that to inspire inclusion, one must first see it in action. Just like taking inspiration from my mum’s story, I am motivated to share mine in the hopes that other women can see what is possible.
As a female CEO in a workforce where we're still a minority (less than 20% - WGEA, 2021), I understand the importance of visibility. By being visible on this adventure, I aim to show other women that it is possible to bootstrap your own business. It is possible to set out on your own adventure, even amidst all the noise saying otherwise. Rain or shine, we set out to find joy and adventure.
This is what Merry People is all about.
Finding what makes you happy, what makes you feel alive (regardless of what is the ‘norm’, or what the statistics say).
And I’m so proud that my choice to chase merriness has allowed me to build a business where women are included, nurtured, and are important, decision-making voices within the company.
So, without further ado, here are just a few ways in which we inspire inclusion for the women in our team, our community, and our world.
While women make up half of the workforce in Australia (51% according to WGEA 2021), they are underrepresented in leadership roles across almost all industries. But at Merry People, our leadership team is 60% women.
I believe this is a result of my intention on building a business that supports women to grow into leadership roles. And in this way, our leadership team is reflective of our workplace, made up of both women and men who are skilled, driven and inspired by the vision of making the world a merrier place.
Created to help our team be supported at whatever stage of the family planning journey they are in, our parental leave policy is close to my heart, particularly since I became a mum to Jack in 2021, and Georgia just last year. Our policy is unique in that it covers multiple stages of family planning; from having, or adopting, a child, to keeping in touch days, to coming back to work following your parental leave.
At the heart of our Merry Community are people who joyfully explore the world, gumboots on (that's you!). Recognising that a significant portion of our community is women, we work to celebrate and uplift women who are driving positive change in their fields, and share their stories.
This is why in 2023, we partnered with two remarkable Australian women, our Merry People Ambassadors; endurance athlete and motivational speaker Samantha Gash, and Olympic snowboarder Belle Brockhoff.
We partner with Sam and Belle to amplify their voices and showcase their achievements by sharing stories and behind-the-scenes glimpses of their journeys, and in turn, inspire you — our Merry Community.
Bridge It is a nonprofit organisation based in Melbourne dedicated to transforming lives, and to ending youth homelessness. We financially support their Cocoon Residential program, which provides young people exiting out-of-home care with a home, community, and support to thrive.
Their programs offer homes and support for individuals aged 17 to 21, helping them stabilise, learn independent living skills, and transition positively into adulthood over 12 months. Make sure to watch this space this year, we’ve got something very exciting planned (I encourage you to join our mailing list to find out when we share more)!
You choosing Merry People means that we can make a positive impact in our workplace, our community and our world. Your encouragement, love and support mean the world to me, and my team.
On a fun and final note, with purple being one of the main colours used to celebrate International Women’s Day around the world, in true merry spirit, if you have a pair of our Grape or Lavender Bobbi Boots, today is the day to pop them on!
As always, if you have any questions, feedback or anything you’d like to share with me from this blog post, you can drop me an email at support@merrypeople.com. I'd love to hear from you.
- Dani, Founder & CEO of Merry People
]]>To keep your boots clean, look no further than our trusty Care Kit. Filled with rubber-loving accessories - a micro-fibre cloth, rubber boot treatment spray and sponge, this kit will help to preserve the life span of your boots. Simply clean, treat, shine and off you go!
Merry People boots are designed to keep you happily splashing through puddles for a long time. But to keep your boots as good as new, you should give them some care by adequately cleaning your rubber boots - both inside and out. Keeping your boots clean is simple and easy. It's completely worth it, so that your boots last for years to come. Here’s a quick guide on how to properly clean and care for your rubber boots.
Each time you wear your rubber boots, always remove any wet debris or mud from the outside of your boots. Even if you didn’t go anywhere particularly dirty while wearing your boots, it's essential to ensure that your boots are cleaned well. You’ll want to give your boots a wipe-down before storing them to prevent grime or dust buildup.
If the marks on your rubber boots have dried, use a medium bristle brush to dislodge the grime from your boots to avoid scuff marks. You can switch to a smaller brush, like an old toothbrush, when working on the treads on the soles of your boots.
To remove heavier mud from your boots, make a cleaning solution by mixing a teaspoon of kitchen dish detergent in two cups of warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the cleaning liquid, clean the boots from top to bottom, and rinse your boots with water.
When your rubber boots are free of stains, wipe them down a final time with a soft cloth dipped in warm water. You can also use the rubber boots cleaning treatment and the buff and shine applicator from the Merry Care Kit to finish off the cleaning process. These simple techniques will keep your boots clean. You can use these cleaning techniques on your boots anytime and anywhere.
Don’t forget to clean the inside of your rubber boots too, otherwise, you might unintentionally turn them into a breeding ground for bacteria. To clean the inside of your boots, mix a teaspoon of heavy-duty laundry detergent and two cups of warm water to make a cleaning solution. Soak a clean cloth in the mixture, then wipe down the entire interior of your boots. Then, dip another clean cloth in plain warm water and swipe it through the inside to rinse away the cleaning solution.
If you wore the boots in contaminated waters, disinfect them with a solution of pine oil or disinfectant and water. Scrub the inside (and outside!) of your boots with a soft-bristled brush, before leaving the rubber boots to air dry.
While Merry People boots are 100% waterproof, water can sometimes get into your boots. If this happens, absorb as much liquid as possible with a hand towel or dry the interior with a hair dryer for a few seconds at a time. After removing the excess water, stuff the boots with newspaper, then place the shoes upside down somewhere warm and indoors. Remove the newspaper after twenty-four hours.
If needed, repeat the process until the neoprene lining is completely dry. This protects your boots and helps them last for years to come.
If you’ve got a pair of stinky boots, freshen them up by sprinkling about one-fourth cup of baking soda in each dry boot. You can leave the baking soda in your boots overnight, then empty the boots before wearing them the next time. Once your boots are cleaned and smelling nice, you can wear your rubber boots out and about with confidence.
Merry People boots are made with natural rubber, a softer material that can fade and crack with excessive sun exposure. As such, we recommend you store your boots indoors so they’re not exposed to direct sunlight all of the time. Save the sunlight for your merry adventures!
Water inside your boots? Stuff the boots with newspaper, then place the boots upside down in a warm place. After 24 hours, remove the newspaper & repeat the process if needed until dry.
As mentioned above, we recommend storing your boots indoors if possible. Constant exposure to the weather can dry your boots out, which over time may result in cracks.
Keeping your boots clean and applying a silicon spray regularly will help add moisture to your boots and help prevent cracking.
We recommend that you use your hands or a shoehorn when removing your Bobbi boots. This will help to avoid putting continual pressure on the sole of the shoe. Remove your boots gently using the pull tabs to keep them in the best condition.
Our gumboots are designed to be a fashionable lifestyle boot; they are not designed to be a work or safety boot and do not have any safety or non-slip accreditations.
As such, the rubber tread may be slippery on particular surfaces, for example polished concrete, ice, and wet wood - so please take care. If you require extra grip on your boots, we recommend a product called “traction spray", available at most local hardware stores.
If something does happen to your boots that you think might be our manufacturing fault, we want to hear about it. Please contact us at support@merrypeople.com.
Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential to keeping your Merry People boots in tip-top shape. Remember to always clean your rubber boots inside and out after wearing them!
]]>Being in nature, while snacking on yummy food? A huge reason why we believe picnics are one of the best inventions known to humankind. And since we're talking picnics in this blog post, we’ve partnered up with our friends at Kollab – you probably know them for their pretty and practical picnicware!
Together, we’ve paired a few of our favourite products, and dreamed up five merry picnic-scape themes. We’ve compiled suggestions on all the aspects of a perfect picnic; from what to bring, to what to wear. From the sun-soaked shores of the Mediterranean to the dreamy landscapes of a watercolour-infused summer, there is sure to be a picnic idea in this list that catches your eye!
Kollab: Olive Check print
Merry People: Mustard Bobbi Boots
Picture this; a clear blue ocean, scattered white clouds, the smell of mandarins in the air, and whitewashed arches all about you. Earthy, warm tones. Mosaic patterns, ceramics and rustic pottery. We’re in a Mediterranean mood! Grab your picnic basket and prepare to immerse yourself in the ocean views, and delicious food, with this Mediterranean-themed picnic.
These items will help you decorate your picnic-scape on theme! Here’s what to pack for your Mediterranean-inspired picnic;
We found this easy recipe for ricotta with crushed olives, almonds and lemon from @liv.kaplan on Instagram. She calls it her ‘new favourite girl dinner’, and we’re calling it – this may just be your new favourite picnic snack!
For this picnic, we suggest slipping on a pair of our yellow Mustard Bobbi Boots. (Can you tell we love lemons?!) Zesty and bright, they pair so well with the summery vibes of the Mediterranean! Pop on some linen shorts and a white collared shirt for a breezy summer-ready look.
Kollab: Summertime print
Merry People: Grasshopper Green Bobbi Boots
It’s near sunset, the sky is a beautiful peachy-purple, and even with the later hour, you still feel a warm breeze. Scents of coconut, vanilla, pineapple. Deep greens, bright corals. It’s time for a tropical treat! Here are a few things to pack, and prep, for your tropical-themed picnic feast.
Going with the tropical feel, this food suggestion is an easy (and delicious) one. Fill your picnic bag with luscious, in-season fruits! Juicy peaches, tangy tangerines, and fresh watermelon… kiwi, mangoes, pineapple – the list goes on! Once you’re set up, cut up the fruit to make a colourful, tropical platter. Let the fruit feast begin!
Fun floral prints are in for this picnic! Whether it’s an oversized shirt, sundress or shorts, go bold and bright with the botanical look. For shoes, we couldn’t go past the our Grasshopper Green Bobbi Boots. Their lush, tropical green is the perfect fit for this theme. And if you are heading into a tropical climate, then you’ll love their waterproof rubber and neoprene outer – rain or shine, it’s picnic time!
Kollab: Copenhagen print
Merry People: Lavender Billie Clogs
We’re setting the scene with a garden bursting with delicate blooms, all different colours, and a picnic blanket full to the brim with all sorts of yummy treats. There are birds chirping and bees buzzing, and picturesque greenery as far as the eye can see! Without further ado, here are a few tips on what to pack for the garden picnic of your dreams.
Earlier last year, the incredibly talented Tigga Mac blew our minds when she made this hyper-realistic Grasshopper Green Bobbi Boot cake. So we had to include one of her creations in this post! To fit in with our floral feel, her antique rose cupcakes are our pick. Don’t worry – the skills required for these are much more basic than the boot cake! These cupcakes are made with sponge cake and topped with piped pink rose petals.
For your picnic outfit, choose your favourite summer dress with a floral print. For shirts and pants, think light and flowy, in pastel colours. For shoes, we have to go with our Lavender Billie Clogs! This pale purple is much-loved by our Merry community for its fresh and happy vibe. So, slip on your Billie Clogs, and let's head to our garden picnic!
Kollab: Hyper Floral print
Merry People: Rust Billie Clogs
Let’s take it back in time with this theme; we’re all about funky patterns, groovy shapes and eclectic decor – disco balls encouraged! So let’s wind back the clock, and gear up for our next picnic…
Back in the day, it was less convenient to keep your food cool on a picnic! Thankfully, now you can pick up an insulated bag from Kollab, and pack it full with some classic retro food like devilled eggs, potato salad or, some simple chicken sandwiches, cut into quarters – we love this recipe by the talented Nagi from Recipe Tin Eats.
To get into the swing of things, it’s time to dig out your iconic tie-dye t-shirt. But if your tie-dye is lost to the passage of time, then any shirt with a retro print like polka dots, paisley, houndstooth, or geometric patterns will do! Pair the print with denim shorts or flared jeans. Pick out a pair of our super comfy Merry Socks (we recommend the Cream colourway), and match them with our totally groovy Rust Billie Clogs. Easy to slip on and off, these clogs really are a picnic!
Kollab: Watergarden print
Merry People: Sky Blue Bobbi Boots
The soft glow of fairylights, and breathtaking views. Nowhere to be, and no plans (except whiling away the hours with the people right in front of you!). For this theme, we’re dreaming of summer skies, charcuterie boards, strawberries, warm and fuzzy feelings… Let’s get this picnic started, because love is in the air!
Simple and delicious, a charcuterie board is the romantic picnic’s MVP. Pick and pile on what you and your picnic partner would like – you can choose from fancy cheeses, fresh fruits, cured meats and so many other goodies. Plus, no need for fancy utensils; just grab, snack, and enjoy the moment. It’s the ideal picnic spread; quick and customisable!
Calm colours like blue, sage and cream are our picks for this romantic picnic! Opt for a flowy blouse, or an oversized button-down, with your favourite trousers or skirt. For shoes, we’re going to go for a match to our ideal picnic weather; sunny skies! So, our Sky Blue Bobbi Boots are at the top of the list for this theme (they are also available as Billie Clogs!). Summer lovin’, here we come!
We hope that one of these merry themes helps you get ready to add some extra flair and fun on your next picnic. For more inspiration, check out more picnicware from our friends at Kollab – they’ve got so much more in store than what we’ve covered in this post! And if you’re wondering what shoes to wear for your next picnic? We’ve got you (and your feet!) covered.
What are you waiting for? Pick a theme, pack your bag, and have a merry time on your next picnic! (P.S. Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!)
There are several benefits of using insoles in your rubber boots. In addition to providing a comfortable cushion for all of life’s adventures, they can improve your posture, reduce your risk of injury, and alleviate pain.
As you read this post, keep in mind that we’re not podiatrists, we just make gumboots that podiatrists love!
Insoles are specifically designed to give your foot the additional support and cushioning that it needs. They work by distributing your weight more evenly across the foot and reduce pressure on specific areas of your feet, correcting imbalances in your feet (such as low or high arches).
Wearing insoles in your rubber boots can help with pain or symptoms associated with metatarsalgia, plantar fasciitis, and flat feet.
Every step you take puts a certain amount of strain on your body, whether it’s just a stroll to the mailbox or taking a jog on the sidewalk. Insoles can help absorb some of this impact that can cause your joints and muscles to feel tired or sore, allowing you to do what you love for longer.
We all know the familiar feeling of standing up after crouching in the garden or finally taking a seat after cheering at a cricket game for hours – even enjoying life can make us feel a little stiff and sore from time to time! What many don’t realise is that staying in one position for a significant amount of time can wear on your posture, causing back pain, neck pain, and sometimes headaches.
By wearing boots with insoles and arch support, your weight is distributed evenly across your body, reducing stress on your muscles and joints. In the end, this improves your posture!
Depending on the needs of your feet, over-the-counter insoles might be your perfect fit! But if you’re trying to tackle specific issues with your feet, such as bunions, plantar fasciitis, or arthritis, a podiatrist can prescribe you customised orthotics.
Orthotics are medical devices that are made to address specific needs in your feet and spinal alignment. Consult with a healthcare professional to determine which type of insole or shoe insert can best address your needs.
Merry People boots are designed with comfort in mind, which is why we craft boots that optimise support and style. Our boots are made with natural rubber inside and out, meaning the outside is as durable and supportive as the sole of the boot.
For more intense weather and stormy seasons, you want to feel bundled up and secure. Our Darcy Boot is perfect for rainy-day strolls or Sunday chores in the garden! This boot is supportive, 100% waterproof, and built to accommodate custom-fit orthotics.
Our Bobbi Boot is the perfect adventure buddy for hikes up muddy trails to zipping around town for errands and puddle-hopping. They come in fifteen different colours, so the outside of the boot can be as unique-to-you as the inside!
All Merry People boots are lined with neoprene to ensure your feet feel cushioned and comfortable from heel to toe, with a removable insole so you can get the support you need in styles you love. Find your perfect rubber boot from Merry People today!
When choosing shoes to help alleviate your symptoms of plantar fasciitis, there are several features you should look for to maximise your comfort, including:
When the plantar fascia is inflamed, it can make walking and running painful and can make it difficult for your foot to absorb shock as you move. Boots with arch support can help your plantar fascia absorb shock when you move, which might help to alleviate pain.
Boots are, by nature, a little more restrictive than the average shoe because they provide additional protection from the elements. Ankle gumboots are the perfect solution to keeping your feet protected, warm, and comfortable.
Boots with thick soles naturally absorb more shock than boots without. When you have multiple layers between your feet and the ground, you reduce the amount of stress on your plantar fascia and support your entire foot.
Some boots have midsole and insole cushioning, allowing for support from your forefoot to your heel. Over time, these soles can wear down and stop providing you the benefits you need, which brings us to our next point.
Whether your comfortable insole has worn down or you need to replace your existing one with one with more support, a removable foot bed will come in handy. Just because your insole wears out doesn’t mean you need to chuck your favourite boot in the bin!
With Merry People boots, you can remove your insole easily and replace it with an insole that provides the additional support your foot needs.
High heels and flat shoes can increase the strain on your feet and joints. A slightly elevated heel hits that sweet spot where it lowers strain and alleviates the pain you may experience in your heel. Look for boots and shoes with a heel height between 0.25 centimetres and 3.8 centimetres.
Our Bobbi and Darcy boots check every box for what you need in supportive, comfortable boots! While other boots may not have every one of these features, the Darcy and Bobbi rise to the occasion (specifically, between 0.25 and 3.8 centimetres)!
With an all-natural rubber exterior and soles with built-in arch support, these boots are lined with neoprene to keep your feet comfortable and dry. The best part? These boots will be your best friend through all of life’s expeditions and adventures, because they are built to last and you can easily remove the existing insole and replace it with new ones to offer continued support.
Our boots are also 100% vegan and never tested on animals, so these are boots you can feel good about, and look great in. Find your new favourite pair of boots now.
Arch support can be any insert or orthotic device in your shoe that supports the arch of your foot. This footwear technology can reduce or eliminate any pain you might feel as you walk, dance, or anything else that gets you up and moving.
Arch support doesn’t only affect how the bottom of your feet feel – it can transform the way you move! If you’re experiencing pain in your feet, back, or knees, it could be because your arches aren’t receiving that critical support they need.
You may be here trying to find the right footwear that either comes with built-in arch support or removable insoles that allow you to insert an arch support insole or device. You know that with the right gear for your feet, you’ll get back to the activities you love more easily!
There are several benefits to wearing boots with arch support, even if you aren’t currently experiencing pain when walking or running. Footwear with arch support can:
It doesn’t matter if your feet start to ache after a few minutes at the shop or if you can run laps around your neighbourhood pain-free – the right arch supports can provide relief and prevent discomfort in the future.
Finding the right supports for your arches can be tricky, but it truly comes down to your needs and your type of arch.
There are three main types of arches, and they all vary with how they feel and support you as you move.
If you are experiencing pain in your arches or are looking to prevent pain and plantar fasciitis, consult with your podiatrist or general practitioner to determine what type of arch support works best for your feet.
At Merry People, we build our boots to move with you in every season. Made with durable materials and with timeless style, all of our boots come with built-in arch support and comfortable neoprene lining so your feet always feel ready to adventure.
We know perfect footwear isn’t ‘one size fits all,’ which is why our boots come with removable insoles. If you find your favourite gumboots aren’t providing the support you need anymore, simply remove the insole and insert your own custom insole to get the most out of your boots!
Ready to find your perfect fit? Explore our range of boots with inbuilt arch support!

Before you whip out your repair kit, take an initial moment to look over your gumboots. A small crack or hole in the rubber might be more D.I.Y. friendly and easier to mend than extensive damage.
It is worth noting that if the damage is substantial, you might be better off replacing your gumboots altogether or seeking the help of a professional. After all, gumboots are constructed to ensure that they are impermeable, and a faulty repair can make matters worse.
If you have decided that the damage isn’t extensive enough to require the help of a professional, there are several methods you can use to mend the problem yourself.
Patching is a popular repair method when it comes to holes or cracks in gumboot material. It’s important to note that this method requires knowing what type of material your boots are made of. Your Merry People Bobbi Ankle Boots are made from rubber, with a neoprene interior. We recommend using Sugru, a type of mouldable glue that turns into rubber! Sugru comes in lots of different colours and is really straightforward to use.
Some cracks and holes may be too extensive to repair on your own. If that’s the case with your boots, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to find out how we can help.
For extra information on how to keep your gumboots in great condition, be sure to read our latest post on how to dry gumboots.
A pair of gumboots properly cared for will stay merrier for longer. Next time you accidentally get water in them, here’s how to get them dry again!
Boots filled with excess water will not dry properly. Be sure to use a towel or cloth to soak up some of the water in the boot.
Give your morning newspaper an extra job! One of the most effective methods for drying gumboots is stuffing them with newspaper. This trick is one of the oldest in the book. The newspaper works to absorb any moisture from the boots.]
For those looking to go above and beyond, whip out your hair dryer. Use it on a low heat setting, aiming it towards the inside of your boots, ensuring that any excess moisture is removed and that your boots dry faster.
As with any appliance, always be sure to read the manufacturer’s guide. Gumboots are strong and durable, but they are not heatproof, so you don’t want to overheat them.
Consider storing your gumboots in a well-ventilated room. We recommend keeping them out of direct heat or sunlight, as that can cause the rubber to crack or discolour. An ideal location is in your mudroom, under a covered porch or your garage, away from any pets or animals.
Now, you have our best practices for ensuring that your gumboots have a long lifespan. The better you maintain them, the more merry adventures you will go on together!
If you’ve done everything to take care of your boots but they’re starting to need even more TLC, check out our post on how to repair gumboots.
Gumboots are built from rubber or PVC, which is what makes them waterproof. Merry People gumboots are made from natural rubber and neoprene, making them waterproof.
However, most gumboots in the market are not equipped with the insulation needed to keep your feet warm in snowy conditions. This is because most gumboots are not explicitly designed with snow in mind. They are simply designed with the intention to protect and keep your feet dry, whether you’re trekking through the mud or out on a rainy day.
That’s where Merry People’s difference is! When we set out to make our first boot, the Bobbi Boot, we wanted to make them as versatile and practical as possible. This meant designing them so that they would still keep your feet warm in sub zero conditions.
Our signature style, the Bobbi Boot, has been tested in sub zero temperatures and is 100% waterproof. We get a lot of customers wearing their Merry People boots to the snow. We love to see how so many of our customers are having merry adventures all over the world, no matter the weather. Rain, hail, shine… and snow!
However, our boots are not designed to function like a snow boot, so we do recommend you take care on icy surfaces. Using ice grips (available at sports or outdoor stores) can add more grip if you plan to wear them in icy or snowy conditions.
There you have it – the Merry People difference! Gumboots that keep you warm, even in the snow! As long as you take the necessary extra steps, there’s no better way to keep dry and warm.
With so many different styles to choose from, like Merry People’s Bobbi ankle gumboots and the mid-calf Darcys, there is something for everyone, so you can rock your style while keeping your feet warm and dry. Shop Merry People’s range now.

The idea for Damn Gina was born on a trip to Italy in 2019, where – after years of struggling with all kinds of unsuitable hair care products and treatments – founder Sumana realised her dream of creating colourful, beautiful and high quality silk hair turbans. Dani and Sumana met at the South Melbourne markets in the early days when they had both left their 9-5s, and became really good friends. All about embracing the curl, Damn Gina is beloved for bright, comfy, ethically and well-made hair products (including all-new silk-lined bucket hats!) that make you feel good and look amazing!

Akin to our signature everyday Bobbi Boots, Pinky & Kamal’s pieces are designed to be worn beyond just the ‘active’. Leisure, work and play, these conscious threads are for life in all its stages.
England & Australia | @mustardmade
The story of how this brand came to be is truly a locker love story, and a cross-continental one at that! Founded in 2017 by two sisters, Becca (in Australia) and Jess (in England), Mustard Made began from a long-held dream to start a business together, built on a product they were passionate about.
And we’re so glad that they landed on lockers; we could not imagine having anything less colourful and *us* in our office! These two sisters have built a beautiful brand from the ground up, and we absolutely adore their collection of mix-and-match, vibrant lockers for home, work and play.
Rosebud, Victoria | @kollabcollection
Kollab is a pretty and practical (and pretty practical!) picnic-ware brand, co-founded by a pair of friends, Jessica and Hayley. Fast forward to now, the team has grown under the leadership of Hayley, now CEO, all working together on a mission to create a collection of essential, everyday storage solutions – with a creative twist! True to its name, Kollab works with Australian artists on their unique designs, sharing home-grown artistry all over the globe. Within their resplendent range of products is something for everyone; market totes, cooler bags, wet bags, picnic blankets and more.
This is so much more than a Christmas list of brands to shop with; whether or not you’ve ‘wrapped up’ on all your gifting, we think this list of female-founded small businesses is definitely one for you to save for the future!
]]>The combination of a rainy day and a poor choice of footwear is high on the list of not-fun scenarios. Nobody enjoys soaked socks! That is why gumboots, also known as rainboots or wellington boots, are the most popular (and best!) choice for waterproof footwear. They’re durable, weather resistant, protective against slippery surfaces, and stylish.
Due to their versatility and stylish design, many people worry that gumboots are not really waterproof. Gumboots are indeed waterproof, and are widely known for their ability to keep your feet dry in rain, mud – and for those wondering if you can wear gumboots in the snow, yes, even in the snow. But what makes them waterproof? Let’s find out!
We explore the ins and outs of gumboots, how to pick the most durable ones, and how to maintain them so they last you for many, many puddles.
Most gumboots are made from either rubber or PVC. These two materials are both waterproof and make for excellent weather-resistant materials. They are both are durable and impermeable, meaning your feet will stay dry all day long in heavy rain and snow.
While both can be appropriate choices, the key difference between the two is that rubber is a natural material that's thicker and more durable than PVC. Due to it being able to stretch and mold to your foot, gumboots made from natural rubber are more comfortable than PVC gumboots.
A key factor in ensuring that your gumboots are waterproof is opting for a pair made of high-quality materials. Thick, durable material like natural rubber, combined with a well-designed construction, ensures that your feet will stay dry.
Take our highly-rated Bobbi Ankle gumboot, for example. Made out of high-quality neoprene with reinforced seams, you can rest assured knowing that your feet won’t be exposed to any unexpected leaks! Puddles? No problem!
Like any item you own, a little tender-loving-care will help give your gumboots longevity. Be sure to rinse off your gumboots with clean water and store them safely after each wear. Just make sure you know how to dry gumboots once you’ve washed them.
If you have a pair of Merry People rubber gumboots, we recommend you pick up our Care Kit that includes silicone spray and a shine buffer that will keep the natural rubber of your boots in top condition.
The more care you give them, the further they will take you!

]]>But when picking out fashion boots, durability is just as important as style. A good pair is an investment, so you want to make sure that you’re getting something that can withstand the wear and tear of your activities and adventures!
The lifespan of fashion boots varies significantly depending on multiple factors. But high-quality pairs should last you at least two to three years. Rubber boots a durable option for fashion boots, and can last for many years with proper care and maintenance.
The durability of fashion boots boils down to three things: the quality of the materials and construction of the boots, the type and frequency of their use, and the level of maintenance you give them. Let’s break down each of these factors that affect the durability of fashion boots.
Durable rubber is the way to go for high-quality boots as these are the most durable materials. They’re resistant to wear and tear, plus rubber boots are waterproof. The way the material is put together also makes a difference; those with sturdy stitching will last longer.
If you use boots for more intense activities, such as gardening or even industrial work, they’ll become more worn through, faster. The same is true if you wear the boots frequently or for prolonged periods. That said, boots made with premium materials and given proper care and maintenance will have a longer lifespan.
Proper cleaning and maintenance don’t just make your fashion boots look good—they also extend their life. Be sure to follow the care instructions that come with your shoes; use the right cleaning tools, store them properly, and do regular inspections.
Aside from adequate care, cleaning, and maintenance, here are some tips to help you keep your boots in great condition longer:
While the best fashionable boots will be durable enough to accommodate different types of uses, you still have to be careful in how you wear them. Don’t use them beyond what they’re expected to withstand.
As soon as you see any damage on your boots, have them repaired. This nips the problem in the bud, keeping your boots in optimal condition and saving you money in the long run.
Merry People marries fashion and functionality in our durable gumboots. Here are two of our top choices!
The Bobbie Ankle Gumboots are the ultimate everyday fashion boots. The Darcy Mid-Calf Gumboots take a page from the Bobbi Ankle Gumboot in construction, but they’re designed to deliver performance, making them great for a variety of adventures. On top of 100% waterproof protection and extra-grippy soles, they come with extra features like built-in arch support and removable insoles, so they’re optimised for all-day wear.

]]>Finding the right landscaping boots doesn’t boil down to picking between brands, colours, or styles like pull-on boots versus lace-up boots. It’s all about determining which pair offers the best safety and function for you as you go about your landscaping work. Here’s why you should pay extra attention when buying the right landscaping boots:
The main objective of finding the best boots for landscaping work is to protect the feet; it’s important to keep your feet safe from any possible hazards. For some fields of work, it’s recommended to use boots with a steel toe cap.
If you’re landscaping, you’re likely going to be working outside for several hours a day, and often on your feet for the majority of the time. Finding the right landscaping boots will ensure that you’re comfortable throughout and that you minimise any pain from the fatigue of being on your feet.
Landscapers are in their boots a lot, so it’s crucial to be in a pair of boots that will be up to the job. A good pair of landscaping boots will be durable, made of good quality materials, and protected under warranty.
To help you look for the best boots for landscaping work, here’s a list of characteristics that you should consider:
Sufficient cushioning and arch support will aid in absorbing shock on your feet and guarding it against pain and fatigue. If you have specific gait or posture issues, explore custom-made orthotics for your boots or get after-market insoles to customise the cushioning and support of your boots.
Landscapers have to work on various terrains, from loose gravel to muddy ground. You must have boots that will give you secure footing wherever you are and in whatever weather conditions. Choose boots with great grip and traction.
Pick landscaping boots made using a sturdy, high-quality materials. This ensures that footwear won’t wear out too quickly under high pressure and extensive use.
You’ll probably have to deal with wet conditions while landscaping. Because water is one of the greatest enemies of footwear, you’ll want to have landscaping boots that are 100% waterproof, such as Merry People’s gumboots, so that they’ll remain sturdy for a long time and won’t make you uncomfortable as you move about your work.
Merry People offers high-quality gumboots that are great choices for landscapers looking to marry style and function in their work. ]]>When choosing boots for standing all day, you’ll have to pay attention to the different characteristics that affect how they feel on your feet and how they’re able to sustain you throughout use.
Here's what you need to consider:
Starting off strong, let’s talk material! Material will significantly impact the boots’ overall comfort. If you’re looking for shoes for lots of time spent outdoors, maybe you’re looking for the best boots for landscaping work or boots for wet activities; either way, you should opt for rubber boots.
If you get a pair lined with neoprene, like Merry People’s Bobbi Ankle Gumboots, you’ll definitely feel the extra comfiness.
Plus, they’ll keep your feet dry and comfy, even if everything else isn’t!
Look for boots with rubber or synthetic non-slip soles for better traction and grip, and ones with flexible soles for better natural movement. Check the inside, as well! Opt for shoes with a good amount of high-quality insole or midsole cushioning to minimise the impact on your feet and joints.
Comfy boots have good arch support that promotes proper alignment of the feet and reduction of strain in the joints, knees, and back. If you can’t find a pair with built-in arch support, choose one that allows the use of inserts – or choose Merry People’s Bobbi Ankle Gumboots, which have built in arch support and can also be worn with inserts!
Always opt for high-quality boots that are constructed for long-time use even with everyday wear. Those made with durable materials will feel better on your feet, and will last longer for all your adventures!
Heavy boots can add unnecessary strain to your feet and legs, and cause fatigue and discomfort. Choose lighter pairs, such as rubber boots, if you’re planning on wearing your shoes every day or in more taxing activities.
Remember these tips to help you find the perfect pair of comfy all-day boots:
As much as possible, go to a store and try on the pair before buying them. This ensures that you have the right fit and that you find the pair that best suits your needs and preferences. If you’re buying online, pay extra attention to the sizing guides and check if the brand has a returns policy that allows you to send them back if they’re not the right size.
Always choose boots with the right fit as these will prevent any slipping or rubbing that can cause pain and discomfort. Be sure that you find a pair that is just right around the heel and midfoot.
Sometimes you and your boots need to get to know each other! Try them on at home and wear them around the house to get the feel of your new boots. While they may not need to be ‘broken in’, it’s good to get used to the feel of them and give them a bit of a stretch before you wear them out and about.
Merry People offers gumboots that seamlessly marry function and style. Our Bobbi Ankle Gumboots are specially designed for all-day comfort and timeless fashion – the ideal pair whether you’re using them for outdoor adventures or a quiet night out on the town. Getting high-quality commuter boots is a smart choice for any person taking alternative forms of transportation from place to place. They make sure that you’re safe and comfy, whether you’re carpooling, riding a motorcycle, or walking long distances. Here are some reasons why you should invest in good commuter boots:
High-quality commuter boots are made to keep your feet comfortable and supported so that no matter how long or far you tread, you don’t feel any discomfort or fatigue. You wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a commute in pain wearing shoes that aren’t made for walking!
Commutes can take a toll on any footwear, but a great pair of commuter boots can withstand regular wear and tear brought about by walking on different terrains and prolonged use. You won’t have to replace them as frequently as other pairs of shoes, which saves you money in the long run, too.
First-rate commuter boots will often come with features such as waterproofing, slip resistance, and extra traction. These will protect you from various hazards that you might come across on a commute, including those that arise from unpredictable weather conditions.
Nowadays, more and more people want to wear shoes that are functional and stylish, as they move around their urban surroundings. As a result, commuter boots nowadays come in a variety of styles and colours that you can match to your personal style without sacrificing function.
The great thing about practical and stylish footwear is that due to it being functional and fun, it's versatile! Commuter shoes don’t have to just be limited to commuting. They should be versatile enough to be worn in different situations with a variety of outfits, making them a smart investment.
When choosing commuter boots, there’s more to think about than just style, colour or debating the merits of pull-on boots versus lace-up boots.
Here are the factors you should consider when buying high-quality commuter boots:
Look for commuter boots made with material that is durable. You can find rubber gumboots or boots made that have flexible, soft linings that are comfortable and long-lasting.
Make sure your commuter boots offer ample cushioning in the soles and provide adequate arch support to minimise fatigue on your feet. This ensures that you’re supported and stable even if you’ve been on the move for a long time.
You see different weather conditions on every commute, and it’s important that your boots can work well in each one. Look for boots that are waterproof and have good traction for slippery surfaces.
To keep boots good as new, you’ll most likely have to maintain them regularly. Choose boots that are easy to clean and don’t take a lot to keep in great condition.
Merry People offers comfy, durable gumboots that seamlessly marry style and function. Let’s take a closer look at the difference between pull-on boots and lace-up boots. These two styles are generally distinguished by the way they’re designed to be worn.
Pull-on boots, also known as slip-on boots, are made to slip on or off your feet. They’re typically made using stretchy material or elastic slide panels that allow the foot to move in and out of the boot with ease. They rarely have any fastenings; if they do, they’re mostly for a bit of added flair.
Lace-up boots, on the other hand, have laces designed for function. They’re there to be adjusted so that the boots fit more securely around the ankle.
Pull-on boots are typically more comfortable and convenient to wear. Because they don’t have any fastenings, they’re easier to slip on and they rarely cause any pinching discomfort. Pull-on boots are often also made of very durable materials like rubber or leather, which are better suited to withstand regular wear and tear.
Lace-up boots are the ideal option for people who are looking for more support, stability, and a secure fit in their boots. They’re especially useful for hikers, athletes, workers, etc.
Because they can be fastened more securely, lace-up boots offer the advantages that come with shoes that are custom fit on your feet. Similar to pull-on boots, you can also use lace-up boots in a wide range of activities, including outdoor adventures.
When picking between pull-on boots and lace-up boots, consider the following factors to find the right style for you:
The choice between pull-on and lace-up boots can boil down to use. If you need boots for casual wear or light activities, the former is better. But if you need a pair for more intense work, then maybe the latter’s the one for you.
However, with pull-on boots like Merry People’s Bobbi Ankle Gumboots, you'll find that a versatile pair that can easily switch use for whatever adventure you’re on is a dream come true!
Pull-on boots are the right option if you’re all about comfort and convenience. They’re much more enjoyable to wear in a snap!
If you need the extra assurance that your boots are snug around your ankles, then lace-up boots give you a bit more customisation. With the laces or fastenings, you can customise the fit just for you.
There are so many different styles and silhouettes in both pull-on and lace-up boots. This one definitely comes down to personal preference!
There is no one-size-fits-all answer when choosing between pull-on boots and lace-up boots. The choice will ultimately depend on personal preference and the intended use of the boots. But if you’re looking for style, comfort, and convenience, pull-on boots are the better choice.
Merry People offers the best-quality pull-on gumboots in Australia. You can choose from over 15 different colours and multiple styles, from tall to short ankle gumboots! The crowd-favourite Bobbi Ankle Gumboots have both style and function, making them the best pull-on boots for everyday wear.

Starting Rise Fierce has been a transformative experience for you, and through the initiative, many other women have experienced that same journey of empowerment. Since starting Rise Fierce, what have been some of moments of joy when you knew you’re in the right place, doing the right thing?
There are so many joyful swims; it's hard to name just a couple. But one of the most vivid memories since starting Rise Fierce is of a woman who, on day one of the retreat, was scared of the water and the cold, and only dipped her toes in. By day two, she held my hands, and we edged in a little deeper. By day four, we were jumping off the harbor wall, skinny-dipping under the full moon, and all howling with laughter and joy. Seeing the transformation in her once she knew she could do it, she could brave the cold water in the middle of winter, was a really moving experience for me. My passion is introducing women to the water in a safe and playful way, and I can't believe it's now also my job!
The 2022 Rise Fierce Retreat
Time for a fun one! If you could design a Bobbi Boot inspired by a cold plunge in the ocean, what would you name it, and what colour would it be?
My Bobbi Boot would be a dusty pink colour, the same colour as those cold clear mornings where the sunrise sends the sky hazy pink. I think I’ll simply call it 'Sunrise'.
Sophie visiting her favourite swimming spot, wearing Billie Clogs in Sky Blue
How do you bring in and embrace merriness into your everyday life? Into your work?
It’s not hard to bring merriness into my everyday life, I have a 1.5 year old, his name is the Cornish word for joy and he really is little ray of sunshine. With regards to work, for me being in the ocean is playtime. I behave in the ocean the exact same way I did when I was a child, diving through the waves, bodysurfing and swimming underwater. My work is a lot about getting other people relaxed and calm enough to enjoy the ocean in the same way too. What could be merrier than that?!
Earlier this year, on one of your winter retreats, the women who came along were all gifted a pair of Merry People boots. What inspired you to have the women on your retreat wear Merry People?
The Merry People boots and clogs are such perfect footwear for pre and post swim. Your feet can get epically cold in the sea so you really need a shoe you can slide on easily, ideally with a thick wooly sock underneath. You also want a weatherproof shoe. It’s England, it’s likely raining, or you have to cross a stream to get to the beach. Merry People really tick all the boxes - warm, comfortable, practical and stylish.
How would you encourage someone who has never gone cold-water swimming before, to give it a go?
It’s a great time of year to start, September in the UK is actually when the water is warmest as it’s been heating up all summer. It’s really important to know about the location you’re swimming, so either speak to local water users or go to a lifeguarded area. Find a friend to go with too, it’s more fun together and safer too. And make it a very quick dip, just a minute or two max is plenty. The cold water can be dangerous so don’t push your limits. Have fun!
Find out more about Rise Fierce and what retreats are coming up, or follow Sophie on her merry (and often cold!) adventures on Instagram.
We’d love to hear more about what inspired you to start your own label. As well as what have been some of the challenges, and your merriest moments, along the way?
I started my fashion brand in 2015, after returning to Australia after a year of working with war-affected Mayan weavers. It was an opportunity of a lifetime, and an experience I cherish- designing woven products to help the women generate income to buy basic medicine, provide food and educate their children.
While living in Guatemala, my camera was pinched. My friend and I spent the night running down storage water pipes and through the jungle to try and catch the thief, but we couldn’t find them. So I started painting a lot to capture memories as I figured my paintings might not get stolen. It also felt less intrusive with the locals to sit and paint a scene or a memory rather than take photographs. So this started my painting practice of painting wherever I went to capture memories. My clothing collections become travel diaries, every artwork has a story.
It was this time in Guatemala that formed my painting practice- translating experience into artwork for fabric print and a clear direction for the basis of my fashion signature style. My collections are made in Melbourne with natural fibres, digitally printed to reduce environmental impact, utilise offcuts to minimise waste, are available in sizes XS to 10XLovely and feature my hand painted artwork.
Starting a label had been a lifelong dream, and taking the leap has created some very merry moments. I never even properly considered art as a career until 5 of my year 12 artworks were selected to be shown in TOP Arts at the NGV. That was a real turning point for me, where I thought- hey, maybe I give this a shot. No other artist out of the 57 artists selected had as many shown.
In more recent years showing my clothing collections at New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week has been incredible. Designing for the Frankie Magazine on the 2024 Diary was a dream!
You’ve been able to try out all the boots in our Tully Boot collection!
We’d love for you to give us a walk-through of the outfits you styled for each colour combo – what was your thinking behind each one?
Look 1: Plum Tullys | Wood Grain Orange Pants
For this look, it was so easy to highlight the orange pop in the Plum Tullys - it was like they were made for each other! I kept the top half simple with a plain black top (which picks up on the wood grain stripe in the pant) and let the orange do the talking!
Look 2: Plum Tullys | Homely Dress (Standard Length)
The two plum tones SING together! I also love how the orange picks up on the orange in the print. These Tullys were made for this dress!
Look 3: Plum Tullys | Chateau Garden T Dress
So easy to style with the purple and berry tones!
Look 4: Teal Tullys | Vie De France Sleeveless Ruffle Dress
I am enjoying how this colour seems to extend the outfit to the ground. It feels seamless and effortless. It sings with both the green and the blue in the print, and feels soft and tonal.
Look 5: Teal Tullys | Vie De France Top, Pants and Scarf
The teal colour in the Tullys and the pants work perfectly and creates a seamless look. The Teal Tully feels very cool with these pants!
Look 6: Black Tullys | Jewel Jacket and Skirt
This is a look I had a lot of fun with. The outfit is sharp, so I chose the sleek Black Tullys for this one to balance the accessories. This print will be available online soon!
Look 7: Black Tullys | Swan Ruffle Apron Dress
I love the volume of the dress balanced with the cool grounded feeling of the boot. Black was an easy choice for this look to match the swan in the print and the hat!
Look 8: Sunshine Tullys | Rabbit T Dress Scarf
I love how the yellow picks up on the yellow in the daisies in the print and the orange picks up on the orange in the rabbits.
Vie De France White Tank Dress
The perfect yellow for the highlights in the print, and the orange works so well with the baked goods!
Our Tully Boots are bright and bold - like your designs! - with a head-turning silhouette. From your experience, what is your number one piece of advice for putting together an outfit with the Tullys?
For building these looks, I started with the boot, and held it up to my wardrobe like a metal detector. What you are looking for is a print which includes the colour of the shoe in the pattern!
I found that the Tullys are really easy to pair with the pants from my collection too. The width of the pant leg feels really balanced with the shoe. I enjoyed pairing the dresses with volume, and drama with the boots - they are really comfortable, but give a really nice slim line at the ankle which balances this style of dress. My apron and tank styles both give this silhouette.
Tell us about your most recent collection, Chateau Collection. What was your process for taking these designs from sketched ideas to a colourful reality?
Last year I had such an amazing time painting at my Artist Residency in Champagne, France. The experience formed this collection- sitting under trees painting butterflies and wild strawberries, studying antiques in the Chateau and documenting the amazing French pastries we ate! It is a very eclectic collection and I think you can feel the joy of the experience within the prints.
This is the biggest collection I have ever made, and features 10 new hand painted prints over 17 shapes, many of which are made to order, made in Melbourne and are available in sizes XS-10XLovely.
I moved to Wangaratta straight after the Residency and spent time further developing the collection, working on shapes, getting the feel right. To put the cherry on top, I had a great time painting a massive backdrop (6x3 meters!) which is actually a painting of the studio I had within the Chateau. I felt it was a nice way to complete the story.
Quick fire...
What’s your must-have for a perfectly merry morning?
A perfectly merry morning for me is painting to my heart’s content with a great coffee.
If you designed a print for Merry People, what would the inspiration be?
I love painting plants, flowers, objects… something around a Merry theme would be perfect. Painting a print for Merry People sounds like a great idea! Watch this space.
What’s your favourite tip to share for styling colourful patterns?
Wear print head to toe or choose any colour in the print and match it back with block colours!
And of course, which Tully colour combo was your favourite!
I love them all but I especially love the Plum Tully - I use this colour a lot in my artworks… the orange too!
A very merry thank you to Tara, for sharing her story and styling advice with us! Shop her latest collection here, our Tully Boots here, and keep up with her fashion and fun on Instagram.

Let's dive into with our tips for styling a truly dynamic duo; Bobbi Boots and jeans.
Tip #1: Ankle-length Is Everything!
Get ready for a winning combo: Bobbi Boots and jeans that hit just above your ankles. These two are a match made in merry heaven. Whether you're in skinny jeans, cropped denim, or tapered bottoms, ankle-length jeans make those boots pop!
Tip #2: Bright & Vibrant With Bootcut Jeans:
For stand out style, try vibrant Bobbi Boots with slightly flared bootcut jeans. The lush and lively boots peeking out of the classic denim create a cool contrast.
Tip #3: Skinny Jeans? Time To Roll!:
Skinny jeans can run a bit long and end up hiding your Bobbi Boots. To avoid this, roll up the cuffs or tuck them in a bit to let your boots shine. It's a quick move that adds flair to your look without sacrificing comfort.
Tip #4: Play With Colours:
Get creative with your outfits by playing with colours. Match your Bobbi Boots with black jeans for a sleek monochrome style, or go for a contrasting look with brighter boots and summery white jeans. Mixing colours like this adds an interesting twist to your look.
Versatility For Any Style
Bobbi Boots are like style chameleons – they work with any outfit! Whether you're wearing black, white jeans or timeless blue denim, your Bobbis will fit right in. The key is their versatility, making them a go-to choice for your everyday denim outfits.

Hey Belle! What’s been happening in your world?
It's been a busy time of year! The snow season is approaching, so I've been hitting the gym to stay fit and prepare for some exciting snowboarding adventures. Along with snow-related prep, it's been a mix of academic pursuits and physical training! Lots going on.
Recently, I finished up at uni for the trimester and have already dove straight into planning out subjects for next semester - I always really enjoy planning out the subjects I’ll be doing in the new semester.
On top of that, I'm thrilled to share that I've spent the last couple of months up at the snow! It was so great to hit the slopes and test out some new equipment, including a sustainable race snowboard. It's wonderful to see the industry embracing eco-friendly options, and I was so excited to experience the performance and environmental benefits firsthand.
Winter in Australia means it’s time to hit the slopes! Where’s your favourite place to go and what are your favourite things about a winter in Australia?
Thredbo and Perisher immediately come to mind! Thredbo has an enchanting charm with its picturesque alpine village and breath-taking mountain views. The snow-capped peaks beckon skiers and snowboarders, promising endless fun and exhilarating adventures. And let's not forget about Perisher, a winter wonderland with its vast ski fields and diverse terrain.
But what truly adds to the magic of an Australian winter is staying in Jindabyne. My favourite spot to stay is this cosy town, nestled by a beautiful lake. I love exploring the charming cafes and local shops - people are always so lovely, and give my stays there such warmth!
And oh, the lake! It's a serene oasis where we play a cheeky round of frisbee golf, or just enjoy the stunning scenery. At night, when the skies are clear, there’s nothing like a bit of star gazing. So, my advice? Pack your skis, grab a hot cocoa, and get ready for an unforgettable winter adventure in Thredbo, Perisher, and Jindabyne!
What are your ‘must haves’ for a weekend away in the snow?
When it comes to a weekend getaway in the snow, being fully prepared is key to maximise the fun! Here are some must-have items on my packing list for your next snow adventure:
With these essentials in tow, I'm ready to conquer the slopes and have an unforgettable snow-filled weekend!
Can you share any tips or tricks for those looking to improve their snowboarding skills?
First and foremost, my advice would be to keep an open mind and embrace the learning process with a positive attitude. My second tip would be to practice patience because Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will the mountain. Take it one step at a time, mastering the basics before tackling more challenging manoeuvres.
Finally, be sure to take advantage of lessons and instruction from experienced riders – they'll help you carve, turn, and navigate the slopes with finesse. Snowboarding is all about having a blast, so let loose, have fun, and don't be afraid to take a few spills along the way – laughs are mandatory!
With the increasing popularity of winter sports, what are you most excited about for the future of snowboarding in Australia?
I’m personally really excited to see how snowboarding is building a bigger fan base every year. It's the fans and viewership that are really exciting to see grow – we love this sport, and so do they! Each year, we see an increasing number of talented individuals emerging in Australian winter sports, captivating an expanding fan base and viewership. I love that snow sports have a unique ability to keep spectators on the edge of their seats and what I hope for is that through this growing viewership, we'll see more and more Australians tackle the slopes world-wide!
As someone who deeply appreciates the beauty of nature and the outdoors, do you have any thoughts on how we can tread a bit softer while enjoying the snow season?
Tread lightly, pick up your rubbish, and shop wisely!
When enjoying the snow season, it's crucial to tread lightly and minimise our ecological footprint. One way is by picking up our rubbish and keeping the snow clean, ensuring that we leave no trace behind.
Another step is to support brands that prioritise sustainability in their products. When it comes to my choices as an athlete, I focus on partnering with and choosing eco-conscious brands. Like I mentioned before, I am currently trying out the sustainable race snowboard, which utilises carbon from the atmosphere in its manufacturing process.
Plus, choosing Merry People boots for their quality make and and material means my boots will last longer and are much better for the world! By aligning my choices with eco-conscious brands, I can contribute to the preservation of our natural environment - it’s the little things that can make a big difference!

Spring is the perfect time to dust off your dresses and other knitwear, embracing the cool breeze and the blossoming flowers! But committing to a dress may mean come afternoon you’re looking for something just that bit warmer.
Prepare yourself for transeasonal weather by wearing chunky platform ankle boots. Unlike knee-high boots, ankle boots give your legs more room to breathe while still keeping your toes dry and warm. Pair with your favourite slouchy wool socks, tights, or create more visual intrigue with knee-high socks!
Whether it’s your favourite bright floral dress you want to transition into spring with rich, flowery patterns that are perfect for the season, chunky ankle boots should be your go-to accessory. Pairing your pretty patterns with these boots creates a bold contrast that shows you stay ahead of the trends while keeping comfortable.
For silhouettes to pair this with, the sky’s the limit! You can never go wrong with a sleek, patterned midi dress that fits the form like a glove. The hem of the dress should cut above the top of the boot for maximum effect, allowing the boot to peek out in its entirety.
There’s a reason black never goes out of style – the classic little black dress is just too good to let go of and is flattering on everyone. Whether you are sporting a playful noir skater dress or embracing your inner Morticia Addams with a svelte black number, chunky ankle boots can either add to your whimsical approach or create a punk edge.
For an undeniably modern and trendy look, we recommend pairing your black platform boots with a black mini or midi dress with an oversized blazer. Combining closet staples never ceases to produce a timeless outfit with a modern twist.
Lean into the funky and playful style of chunky heeled boots with your favourite oversized pieces. From t-shirt dresses, blazer dresses, and oversized sweaters, these boots will have you inspired to puddle-jump and embrace your inner child.
Our latest addition to the Merry People family, the Tully Boot, is more than a gumboot; it’s a fashion-forward ankle boot built for days and nights on the town! It is also a first step for us towards a more sustainable boot, with its FSC Certified rubber upper, and with some parts of being made with recycled materials. Shop the Tully Boot range now.
]]>As with trying out any new style, there can be initial figuring-out-stage, leaving many asking, “How do I wear chunky boots?” or “What do I already own that I can pair with these gumboots?”
It’s true that these chunky boots add an effortless vibe to your autumn and winter outfits; a fresh take on the classic gumboot, they’re a statement piece to update your current wardrobe.
But if you’re at a loss for how to style these funky new boots, here a few ideas that we hope inspire you!
Fully embrace the camping-chic trend by pairing your favourite pair of Tullys with cosy knitwear for an athleisure look. We recommend chunky knitwear or oversized quarter-zip sweaters from your favourite outdoor brand. Pair with your favourite cargo pants or dress-down with yoga pants, and you’ve got a comfortable outfit to jet around town in!
If you want to upgrade your go-to ‘running errands’ ensemble, sub out the trousers and sweater for a knit midi dress or a miniskirt with a chunky knitted sweater vest.
These boots can truly pair with anything you might wear your other boots for. Cuffed 90s-fit jeans and a denim jacket? That’s effortlessly cool. Paired with a little black dress or your favourite midi dress? That adds a little bit of punk and funk to an otherwise simple outfit. The platform of the boots easily modernises any outfit you would pair with your standard ankle boots!
If you love to push the limits with your sense of style or disrupt expectations when it comes to what-to-wear, the Tully is your new partner-in-fashion! Our chunky-heeled Tullys add an element of surprise to your favourite patterned dresses or pants.
We’re in-between seasons, and if you’re scratching your head in the morning trying to decide if you want to be freezing on your way to work or sweating on your way home, opt for a flowy dress with socks and your Tully Boots.
We think that bold prints complement our Sunshine and Teal colours best for the vibrant fashionista. Even simple, neutral prints paired with this bold shoe are sure to make a statement.
Pair these boots with your favourite knitwear for a timeless yet contemporary pairing. We know chunky Chelsea boots pair well with a basic trouser and oversized chunky-knit sweater, but by switching to a chunky gumboot, your style lands in fashion-forward territory.
Our Tully boot is built with high-quality materials and designed for all your adventures in the city and out on the town. Our boots are 100% waterproof and vegan, and are never tested on animals or made with animal products.

The past several years has seen an ever-evolving trend in boots – from knee-high, ankle, and even Western boots, and chunky ankle boots have now stepped into the arena. These chunky gumboots have an updated edge to them to make them functional, comfortable, and classically on-trend.
Our latest release, the Tully Boot, takes inspiration from the bold colours and styles of 90s-era gumboots. With our vibrant colour options, such as Sunshine and Teal, you can add a pop of colour to your favourite outfit or add a playful hint of edge with classic black.
Wondering how do you wear chunky boots with dresses? Jeans? Shorts? You can never run out of fashion-forward chunky boot outfits! Let’s dive into some of our top tips on how to wear chunky boots.
We all remember the iconic moment Kate Moss wore her gumboots and micro-shorts to a British summer festival eighteen years ago and the gumboots craze reignited. Now, influencers and models alike are pairing their favourite waterproof, chunky heels with miniskirts and micro-shorts to add some edge and playfulness to an otherwise revealing ensemble.
If you want a sophisticated edge, try an all-black outfit with black shorts, a black blazer, and your black Tullys. For concerts and festivals, mini dresses and shorts pair best with these bold and chunky boots.
You can never go wrong by embracing the functionality of your favourite statement piece. Whether you have a bold or neutral colour of our Tully boots, leaning into the playful utilitarianism is a classic fashion statement. Find your longest trench coat, throw it on over any simple outfit, add your Tullys, and you have the ultimate urban sophisticate outfit for running errands.
Bold colours pop best against black coats or compliment other bold, patterned pieces as well.
Dress up your favourite running errands outfit with some bright, chunky Tullys. The height of the boots and the chunky, funky designs elevate your ultra-casual wear to a casually-cool fashionista.
Break up the Parisian tradition of long column skirts with sleek, heeled boots and opt for a chunky gumboot instead! A midi or column skirt creates long, sophisticated lines for your silhouette while leaving room for you to show off your favourite kicks.
Pairing these skirts with our Tully boots subverts expectations, creating a whimsical and bold effect that makes your outfit pop!
You can never go wrong with gumboots and denim jeans. For the eye to be drawn to your show-stopping footwear, we recommend cuffing the legs of your jeans to show the boots in their entirety. Pair with a casual tee, a basic black belt, and your favourite jumper or puffer, and you have a classically cool look that will never go out of style.
Embrace your inner child by partnering your colourful gumboots with a jumpsuit. Whether it’s a draw-string-cinched waist or a utilitarian jumpsuit with buttons and rolled-up sleeves, these boots compliment the one-and-done outfit without overpowering.
With the Tully Boots, gumboots are a fashionista’s best friend. Whether you prefer comfort with your edgy-rocker vibe or are looking for something waterproof that will compliment your style, the Tully is the versatile boot you need in your closet. 1. Deep Rock, near Dights Falls, Abbotsford
This is a definite favourite for the paw-rents on our Merry People team! Located in Yarra Bend Park, the largest bushland park in metro Melbourne, Deep Rock is the go-to spot for some off-leash fun! Part of a network of leafy walks, historical landmarks and woodlands, Deep Rock is nestled within walking distance of Dights Falls, with a rock embankment that allows dogs to hop in and out of the Yarra River – just remember that the water will be colder in winter! Most of the park is dog-friendly, but you’ll need to keep your puppy pals on the leash at all times.
2. Queens Park, Moonee Ponds
Close to the inner city, Queens Park is a tree-filled Edwardian-style park with a lake, free timed parking (along Mt Alexander Road and The Strand Moonee Ponds) and plenty of paths for on-lead dog walking. There are several water fountains for pups, and a cafe for the humans! Pick up a flat white and explore the whole park in a leisurely half an hour. Our team’s top recommendation? Visit on a sunny winter’s day to see the full impact of light streaming through the tree canopies!
3. Lillydale Lake, Lilydale
Heading into the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, you and your pup can explore the large lake and wetlands park in Lilydale, all 100 hectares of it! Dogs are very welcome at Lillydale Lake, with two designated off-leash areas and all other areas perfect for on-lead walking. With loads of shared trails, lakefront views and community areas to check out – plus 24-hour access – Lillydale Lake could very well be a whole day trip for you and your furry friend.
4. Williamstown Coastal Loop
A serene, coastal walk in Melbourne’s western suburbs, the Williamstown Coastal Loop is a favourite for the locals. The perfect track for paw-rents looking for a quieter walk, this 5.6km loop takes about an hour to complete (to keep your feet comfy, make sure you bring your Merry People boots!). With plenty of off-leash areas along the way, you can enjoy the city views while your dog sniffs and explores to their heart’s content!
5. Brighton Dog Beach
Melbourne locals adore this dog beach all year round, especially our more social pups! With a fenced-off area and a quick-shutting gate, your furry friend can roam freely while you unwind with a good book on the beach.
6. Centennial Parklands
In the heart of Sydney, you’ll find these parklands; large expanses of space that are perfect for dogs to run, play and do zoomies! With about 30% of the park for off-leash use, your pup can explore freely in the open fields and gardens. When it comes to the ponds, just make sure your dog is with you and on the leash within 10 metres of the water! Ducks don’t love zoomies as much as your pup does…
7. Manly Dam Reserve
Scenic bushland, plenty of trails, stretches of waterfront – this picturesque reserve is found in the Northern Beaches, a go-to spot for Sydney locals. The picnic areas are for humans only, and the water is a no-go zone — no splashing for pups at this spot. In winter you may be one of the few visitors, so there’ll be plenty of other areas you’ll have all to yourself.
8. Little Austinmer Beach
Wanting somewhere a bit more south of Sydney? Our friends at Lyka recommend this dog beach, with rockpools, shallows and shoreline for your walking adventures! For those craving a little something extra, close by, you’ll find the Headlands Hotel: a dog-friendly pub with great views of the coastline.
9. Western Sydney Parklands
Fun fact: the Western Sydney Parklands is the largest park you’ll find within any of Australia’s cities, linked together by a network of walking trails. With your pup on leash, you’ll have a range of walks to choose from, long and short!
10. Sydney Park
Right near the heart of Sydney’s city centre, Sydney Park contains open grassy areas, wetlands and a generous amount of facilities designed specifically for doggy visitors, such as poo bag dispensers, and designated play areas. During winter, the Lyka team suggest picking up a hot drink at the park's cafe that you can enjoy while you're out for a walk.
With The Merry Essentials!
If you want to make your winter walks even better, here's the scoop: be ready with the right stuff! Get yourself a warm winter coat, plus some biodegradable poo bags. Don't forget your pup’s tasty treats, comfy waterproof boots and your phone… did a walk with your furry friend really happen if you don’t have the adorable pictures to show for it?

Happy Father’s Day!
Conventional gumboot boots are often made with a synthetic PVC material or blend, which is lightweight, waterproof, and widely available – but it won’t last for all the merry adventures you want to take! So, why do we produce kids' rain boots from natural rubber?
Natural rubber is a material extracted from trees and plants, a fantastic, versatile, and hardworking material. It stretches to fit the shape of your child's foot, with a smooth, supple, and skin-friendly texture ideal for sensitive toes. Many kids dislike wearing waterproof boots because they are stiff and create blisters and sore spots on heels and calves, which is eliminated by using natural rubber and a protective neoprene lining.
Every parent will know that kids' feet never seem to stop growing, and replacing their gumboots every winter can become expensive! Our Bobbi Kids gumboots are designed to last, and although you might need a larger size at some point, the stretch and elasticity in the boots mean they won't become too tight or restrictive within a few short months.
The features within each pair of boots provide excellent value for money and are a good choice for children with wider soles or who find standard gumboots uncomfortable to wear. You can also extend the lifespan of your kiddo’s waterproof boots by giving them a quick clean after muddy play dates, storing them away from direct sunlight, or applying a protective spray to improve the suppleness of the rubber to prevent it from drying out after exposure to mud and rain.
Rain boots are a go-to on rainy, wet days, but even during drier weather, you may find that puddles and dampness in parks, play areas, and woodlands means fabric trainers and other kids' shoes become saturated. Wet feet can cause no end of problems, from chills and discomfort to blistering, bacteria growth, and pain, so choosing a pair of kids' rain boots that are 100% waterproof rather than water resistant is absolutely worth it.
Some kids' outdoor boots aren't made from a true waterproof material but are treated with a waterproof coating which breaks down over time or stops being effective once the shoes are washed. Picking a great pair of gumboots, tested rigorously to sub-zero temperatures and with an insulative, warm, neoprene lining means your child can jump in every puddle without any sign of cold toes or sore feet.
There are tons of choices, and we recommend prioritising the following when selecting the right waterproof boots for your child:
Merry People Kids Boots meet every one of these requirements, with the benefit of an added traction sole design to help prevent slipping and sliding during play and running!
